Anything Is Possible If A Person Believes

"...Anything is possible if a person believes" -Mark 9:23

"Impossible" is not in God's vocabulary. Throughout the Bible, God does what people think can't be done.

While Jesus was on the mountain with Peter, James and John (as well as Moses and Elijah, by the way) the rest of the apostles were in the town arguing with some religious leaders.

They had tried to heal a boy who was demon possessed, but failed. The boy's dad, obviously frustrated by the events so far, turned to Jesus. "...Have mercy on us and help us, if you can," said the boy's father.

The response Jesus gives is classic: "What do you mean, 'If I can?'" Jesus asked.  "Anything is possible if a person believes."

Impossible is not in God’s vocabulary. Throughout the Bible, God does what people think can’t be done.

We may be able to learn something from the dad's response: "I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!"

Do you identify with the dad in this story? Do you believe in God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit? Do you believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and your Savior?

Do you believe all these facts about Jesus and yet still struggle with unbelief when it comes to those giants in your life?

You are not alone. This happens to all of us at some point in our journey.  Take some time right now to identify any areas of unbelief you have.

Perhaps you've moved out of the realm of "impossible" and now, like the dad, you just "kinda believe." You have an "if you can" kind of faith.

Even biblical heroes sometimes doubted if God could or would come through.

When Abraham and Sarah doubted if God could really bring them their promised son, God said, "Is anything too hard for the Lord?" (Genesis 18:14)

When Moses questioned whether God could really provide enough meat for his entire army of 600,000 men, God asked him, "Is the LORD's arm too short?"  (Numbers 11:23)

When Jesus' disciples wondered if a rich person could be saved, Jesus stated, "With man this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26)

How do you think God would respond to you right now as you deal with  difficult situations in your life?

Would he ask:

Is anything too hard for me?
Is my arm too short?
With people, this is impossible, but with me, all things are possible.
What else?

Each of the Bible heroes eventually trusted God to do what only he could do.

What do you need to trust God with right now? Speak this out loud or write it down in your journal.

The apostle Paul said he had learned the secret of being content in any life circumstance. Many people would spend a lot of money for just one moment of pure contentment!

What was Paul's secret?  He said, "I can do all things through him who gives me strength."

It was the power of Christ inside of him that gave him all the contentment he needed.

Do you need Christ's strength as you deal with a difficult circumstance in your life?  Do you need his power as you face that giant?

Close this devotion in prayer, recognizing Christ's presence and power with you right now, where you are. Simply tell God that with your own ordinary human strength this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

NOTHING is impossible with God!
